On October 17, as everyone knows, cannabis will be legalized for recreational purposes in Canada. That’s what the whole country learned on June 20th. At present, six locations, where “pot” will be sold, have been confirmed. A shop will be located in Lévis.
Residents of Saint-Georges who want to buy cannabis legally must travel about 100 kilometers to get it, that is to say in Lévis. At 95, President Kennedy Road, a cannabis store will open.
Montreal, Quebec City, Drummondville, Rimouski and Trois-Rivières are the other cities in which exact locations have been confirmed.
The Quebec Cannabis Society (SQDC), a subsidiary of the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ), wants some 20 branches to be established by the date of legalization.
SAQ spokesman Mathieu Gaudreault said this week that a store concept will be developed during the summer.
For the moment, we know that certain rules will have to be respected. At the entrance to the shops, a guard will have to check if the customers are indeed 18 years old. Also the products sold will not be visible.
All new stores will have to meet localization criteria. In Montreal, these businesses must be at least 150 meters from a school, while elsewhere in Quebec the minimum distance will be 250 meters.
Remember that the SQDC is looking for full-time and part-time employees to offer a daily service from 10 am to 10 pm. The offered salary is $ 14 an hour, which is below the SAQ’s.
